The Blood Court

Historical novel

The idea for this historical novel developed during the research and conception of the art history. which in turn developed during my own research into names and origins.

The last recording

Mara Winter just wanted to get away. After an assignment in Berlin that still haunts her, she starts anew in Falkenried, a small town, in a forensic psychiatric clinic, in a life that's supposed to be calmer, more manageable, more controllable. But shortly after she arrives, a body is found, a case that initially seems straightforward, until Mara stumbles upon an old diary. The entries date back to 1987 and recount events within the clinic that were never officially documented, sessions that crossed boundaries, and fears that couldn't be ended by closing doors. The further Mara reads, the more her perspective on the present shifts; behaviors suddenly seem familiar, statements no longer add up, and people fall silent as soon as she asks the right questions. Together with Chief Inspector Jonas Keller, she follows a trail that leads deeper than she thought, back to a time that should have been closed long ago, and into something that never truly disappeared. Falkenried keeps its stories, and some are just waiting to be brought to light.
